Blood Donor Program
Saving the Lives of Pets
Our blood donor program helps to ensure that we have a sufficient supply of canine and feline blood products for our patients.
Canine Blood Donor Program
Dr. Kyes along with hospital technician, Becky Millett, started the canine donor program in January 2010 due to a significant shortage of blood products. This is an invaluable service and we are always looking for canine donors. Every donation can help to save a life.
Canine Blood Donor Criteria
Your dog:
– Must be greater than 50 lbs.
– Must be between 1-8 years old
– Must have a docile temperament
– Must not have a history of blood transfusions
– Should be in good health and free of any disease
Canine Blood Donor Benefits
If your dog becomes a blood donor they will receive the following:
– Blood work
– Fecal floatation
– Heartworm and tick testing
– Blood typing
If your dog’s health screen is normal, your dog will officially enter the blood donor program. Your pet can potentially donate every 3 months (4 times a year). Donations take less than 30 minutes, generally do not require any sedation and you can stay with your pet during the donation.
Feline Blood Donor Program
We currently have several cats living at the hospital who provide blood for critically ill cats. After 3 years these cats are available for adoption. Please let us know if you are interested in adopting a donor cat.

Tails of Success!
Deb Nield & Greg Lyons
“Adopting our sweet Beau has been like having the chance to open up a special gift every day. He is so loyal, absolutely charming and so loving. Having Moose in our lives has been an incredible blessing too. He is so loving and funny. They both, quite simply, fill our hearts. We are so grateful to Henry’s House for giving us the opportunity and privilege of adopting both of our amazing donor boys. It is a real honour to share our home and our lives with our little ‘heroes’.”
Being of service to our clients and patients is the definition of our purpose and the mission of our practice.
